Open Artspace 2023 ‘Open Call’ attracted over 450 entries from over 250 artists spread across the UK. Works by 80 of the artists were selected by an independent selection panel. In keeping with the aims of the Old Parcels Office, the selected works showcase an exciting, eclectic cross section of contemporary art.

The aim of the Old Parcels Office Open Artspace exhibition:

To showcase new and emergent visual art work from the local region and beyond.

To encourage people from diverse backgrounds to submit their unique creations

Prizes & Opportunities

Visitors’ Choice: £200 prize awarded to the most popular work as voted for by visitors to the exhibition.

Big Ideas by the Sea Painting Prize £250.00

PRIZED ’23 : a group show in November 2023 awarded to 6 shortlisted artists

Yorkshire Coast D-Bid Prize: £300.00 awarded to the artwork selected by YC D-BID.

Hawthorn Print Prize: £100.00 materials voucher for the selected printmaker. Sponsored by Hawthorn Printmaking Supplies

Selection Panel

Andrew Dalton – Printmaker and Scarborough Studios Board Member. Trained in Fine Art Printmaking at Central St Martins and an MA in Art History at Falmouth College of Art and Design. Worked for Tate St Ives, Bradford Museums and Galleries and Ryedale Folk Museum as Curator and Gallery Manager. Relocated to North Yorkshire and a AA2A residency at Teesside University led to a renewed engagement with contemporary practice in a rural context as a practicing artist, network coordinator and trustee at Rural Arts North Yorkshire and Scarborough Studios CIO. https://www.andrew-dalton.com/

Courtney Spencer – Is an Australian artist, curator and collaborator who has been based in Yorkshire since 2005. She works with artists and organisations to make amazing projects happen. She studied art and design in Australia and did an MA in business in the UK. With a background in art, design, marketing, fundraising, sales, events and partnerships, she takes a holistic approach to project management and loves collaborating with passionate people to make great things happen. http://www.courtspencer.com/

Sarah Roberts – Is an artist and curator from a small coastal strip village in the exact middle of Wales, borne onto an edge, she now lives and works in Leeds and Wales. Sarah creates immersive installations and mixed media tableaux using sculpture, large format print, found objects, textiles, sound, moving image and fragrance. https://www.sarahrobertsfa.com/
